Deep Bay’s Shellfish Research Centre at Vancouver Island University is notable for its curved roof, designed to echo the waves of the adjacent bay. We collaborated with the architects to design and fabricate the 13,200‑square‑foot metal roof and cladding system. The panels were curved on site and installed over structural timber ribs, creating a continuous smooth form. Because the site is remote, we planned deliveries carefully and set up temporary fabrication equipment to avoid damage during transport. The completed roof not only performs well in the marine environment but also earned the 2011 Metalmag Architectural Award (Roofing Category) for its innovative design and craftsmanship.
