North Island College’s Student Housing Commons in Courtenay provides 217 beds across two four‑storey mass‑timber buildings totalling 106,868 square feet. The project’s goals included creating affordable, comfortable housing and showcasing sustainable construction. Our role was to design and install sheet‑metal cladding that would protect the timber structure and integrate with wood‑frame construction. Working around other trades, we lifted materials into place and fabricated custom metal panels and mechanical enclosures. The final system blends seamlessly with the architecture and helps the buildings achieve high energy‑efficiency ratings.
